Featured by vitality, English (Linguistics and Literature)has been thriving all along the years of its development. The industrious faculty members’ academic achievement, together with the constant importance attached to the course construction, from listening and speaking to translation, from integrated English to linguistics and literature, helps lay a solid foundation of the students’ five basic skills—listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation and tap their potential in the study of the language. In addition, for the needs of our students and of talent markets, adjustments of the curriculum have been made in a timely way, leading to students’ flexible integrated knowledge of English, economics and management science. Furthermore, three other foreign languages, i.e. Japanese, German and French, are provided for students to choose to better equip themselves for the future career.

All these features result in excellence of our students both in academics and in ability. 100% pass rate of Test of English Major Band 4 and 90% pass rate of Test of English Band 8 well demonstrate their mastery of the language, and the 98.5% of the high prestige employment well displays their capability and popularity.

English (Business and Trade) is the fruit of the foresight of the University’s profound understanding and strategic analysis of China’s entry into World Trade Organization and China’s influence in the international business and trade community. Apart from the solid foundation of five basic skills—listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation, students of English (Business and Trade) also have access to many courses in business and trade offered by faculty members from School of Economics and are instructed bilingually, including macro-economics, micro-economics, international trade, international monetary banking, and international investment. The internship at various business companies highlights students’ pursuit of knowledge, preparing them for their future career. The humane care and consultation from the faculty members help foster students’ deep insight into English language, which in turn helps students better understand how to handle different business transactions under different circumstances in the future. Our graduates working at PricewaterhouseCoopers, High Hope Corp., Sainty Corp., Huarui Group and similar enterprises clearly manifest their quality and competence in talent markets.
