Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Gong Xingao assumed the role of Chancellor of Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) in April. He is the first “Academician Chancellor” among universities in the east, west and north of Guangdong Province. Prof.David Gershoni, a renowned professor of the Technion and former director of thePrecision Science Department of the Israel Science Foundation,joined GTIIT as the Vice Chancellor.Prof. Wayne D.Kaplan, former Executive Vice President of the Technion, also joined GTIITas Pro-Vice Chancellor for academic affairs.

Approved by the Ministry of Education, GTIIT opened Mechanical Engineering and Robotics (MER) program, which enrols students from 2021.

At present, GTIIT has opened five undergraduate programs: Chemical Engineering program, Biotechnology and Food Engineering program, Materials Science and Engineering program, Mathematics with Computer Science program and Mechanical Engineering and Robotics program.

In July, GTIIT had its first cohort of graduates. Among these 149 students, most of them were admitted for further studies. Among these students, 51% of them received offers from the top 30 universities in the world, while over 97% from top 100 universities. GTers keep pursuing their academic dreams and personal value.

The project "Basic and Applied Research on Future Functional Materials under Extreme Conditions" led by Prof. Gong Xingao, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chancellor of GTIIT, and Prof. Daniel Tan, received a research grant of 45 million RMB from 2021 Special Fund for the Cultivation of Science and Technology Innovation for Major Program for the Fundamental Research of Guangdong Province.

The artificial fat developing company (YaliBio), of which Dr. Xu Peng is the co-founder and the chief scientific advisor, accomplished its pre-seed stage funding.

The team of three students from Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology won the third prize with the "locust protein extraction" project in the8th “Jinwan Cup Creating Youth" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, in which the percentage of doctors and high-level talents accounted for more than 30% of the total participants.

9 projects from GTIIT's teachers and students were presented at the 2021 China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair and were praised by exhibitors.

18 outstanding teachers and researchers of GTIIT were selected as the “2021 Guangdong enterprises’ science and technology commissioners”.

The construction of the first phase of GTIIT South Campus was basically completed, with 600 fully-equipped modern faculty apartments and 1,200 student dorms ready to be “unveiled”. The internal pool, basketball gym, climbing wall, football field and the tennis court are waiting for you!

The second phase including classrooms, the library, and the labs is now moving forward!
