US和UK前面为什么加the

由普通名词构成的专有名词前面需要加定冠词the，普通名词有它本身的含义，例如moon，加上了the约束普通名词功能上才等同于专有名词，US、UK也是同理。

国家名称前加the的情况

1.国名里带名词

（1）美国：the United States of America=the U.S.

（2）英国：the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland=the UK

（3）俄国：the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics=the Soviet Union或the U.S.S.R.

（4）中国：the People's Republic of China=the PRC

2.国名是复数

（1）荷兰：the Netherlands

（2）美国：the United States of America=the U.S.（States是复数，所以也可以归在这一类）
